The disorder is also a common cause of dementia, which is in turn a group of brain disorders that causes loss of social and intellectual skills.
What Happens in Alzheimer’s Disease?
In this disorder, loss of memory and other mental functions occurs due to degeneration of brain cells. The brain cells die off in this condition which in turn leads to a steady decline in memory.
What are the Symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease?
The disorder proceeds with changes in the brain, which in turn leads to following:
- Loss of memory
- Difficulty in concentrating and thinking
- Difficulty in performing daily basic tasks such as bathing or dressing etc.
- Changes in personality
- Changes in behavior
- Depression and mood swings
- Wandering

What are the Causes of Alzheimer’s Disease?
This disorder is believed to occur due to the combined effects of genes, lifestyle, and several environmental factors as well. The causes are not yet fully understood, but it is clear, that the disorder damages brain cells and kills them. The disease proceeds with more and more brain cell damage.
There are two types of abnormalities that are the primary reason behind this problem:
1. Formation of plaques in the brain
The plaques are the clumps of protein, called as beta amyloid. These clumps are known to damage and destroy the cell in the brain and in turn affects the cell to cell communication.
2. Tangles
The normal functioning of tau protein is essential in order to transport essential nutrients and minerals in the brain. But in this disorder the thread of this tau protein twist into abnormal tangles and hence, leads to failure of the transport system. This in turn leads to death of brain cells.
